Harmony Space: new interaction approaches for tonal harmony

Theme: Music Computing
Harmony Space is the name of an influential family of tools and user interfaces for the manipulation, analysis and performance of musical tasks that involve tonal harmony (and some kinds of microtonal harmony). Harmony Space is based on a group theoretic-based cognitive model of tonal harmony. Harmony Space embodies this model in a highly interactive, visual way to allow diverse rich new kinds of musical interaction. The original research on Harmony Space (Holland 1989) lists dozens of variants that could be specialised for different musical tasks.
