International Music Computing Research Workshop Organised by Simon Holland, Robin Laney and Janet van der Linden Co-sponsored by The Open University Computing Department and the Centre for Research in Computing (CRC), in association with the Music Department. About the Workshop The workshop will take place on 17th and 18th July 2008, hosted by the Music Computing Lab at The Open University in Milton Keynes. The workshop is part of a Computing Week of Events to celebrate the opening of the new purpose-built hi-tech Jenny Lee Building, which houses the Computing Department, including the Music Computing Lab. The aim of the workshop is to bring together researchers from the international academic community to report on and exchange ideas about the state of the art in music computing. The programme brings a balanced offering of academic research presentations, combined with musical performances linked to research themes. Under the general theme of Music Computing, the talks and performances explore two overlapping sub-themes: embodied music cognition and its implications for music computing; and computer based generation of music as a means of composition. Generation techniques covered include algorithmic, highly interactive, and sensor-based. The workshop will be hosted in the recently opened Jennie Lee Building. The building has a large Atrium with good acoustics, and overhanging bridges from which the performances can be viewed and enjoyed. Sponsors We are grateful to the Computing Department and the Centre for Computing Research (CRC) for co-sponsoring this event. The event was organised in association with the Music Department.
